Introduction to Graphical User Interface (GUI) Based Operating System - Infocenter

Introduction :-

What is your operating system in this case? Also how does it work? We are going to study which operating system is being used around us. We'll see.

The function of the operating system is to convey the information provided by the user to the computer as well as the information sent to the user by processing the information received by the computer.

Computers today use a variety of operating systems. Also, a computer can use more than one different operating system. Below are some examples of operating systems.

Computers today use a variety of operating systems. Also, a computer can use more than one different operating system. Below are some examples of operating systems.

1) (DOS) Disk Operating System

2) Windows

3) Unix

4) Linux

5) (Sun Microsystem's Solaris Operating System)

6) Mac OS

In addition, large companies today are building their own operating systems. An operating system is not a single program but a collection of many programs. E.g. When a user is using an application program (MS Word), many actions take place in the operating system behind that program.

The various functions of this operating system run simultaneously such as running multiple programs at the same time, running, controlling them, coordinating all the programs, how much space to allocate to which program, how much memory storage the operating system does.

The operating system can be divided into three parts.

1) Provide user interface :-
If the operating system is complicated for the user, difficult to use, and based on characters only, then the user is not keen to use such an operating system. As before, the operating system used was DOS running on Command Base. Later GUIs came into this type of operating system computer. The user interacts with application programs and computer hardware through the user interface. Most of the graphics used in this GUI operating system.

2) Managing :-
The most important function of the operating system is to manage. Controlling all parts of the computer with the help of operating system, coordinating each other, processing memory, storage management, device management (Input Devices and Output Devices), file management etc. Everything is managed by the operating system.

3) Running various applications :-
Different applications have to be run to perform different types of processes, for which the operating system must support the application. This is why most operating systems are multitarking. They have the ability to run various applications in memory. Also running two applications at the same time means you can listen to the song while the letter writing is running in MS Word. Excel can also use this application.
